Dr. Deborah Trautman, PhD, RN, FAAN, is president and CEO of AACN. Dr. Trautman’s experience includes serving as the executive director of the Center for Health Policy and Healthcare Transformation at Johns Hopkins Hospital, vice president of Patient Care Services for Howard County General Hospital, and director of nursing for Emergency Medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital. She also has held an administrative leadership position at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, and a joint appointment at the Johns Hopkins University School of Nursing. She has served on numerous boards and advisory groups, including the secretary of U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs’ Special Medical Advisory Group, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Joint Commission’s Chief Nurse Executive Council. In 2007—2008, Dr. Trautman was a Robert Wood Johnson Health Policy Fellow working for the Honorable Nancy Pelosi, then Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives.
